Setting up your Kadenze Virtual Studio | User Guide
Kadenze Virtual Studios uses the platform features and capabilities we currently deploy on kadenze.com to enable teaching artists and arts-based/creative educators to run modestly-sized studio courses and one-to-one instruction.
This user guide will help you set up your studio and create your user profile. Use the “Getting Started Checklist” (below) to confirm the settings for your KVS. To understand the key terms we use, please refer to the glossary of terms provided at the end of this document.
Most importantly, in your Kadenze Virtual Studio you will be creating courses. A ‘course’ is most commonly made up of a number of classes e.g. Beginner Guitar Course, Wednesday10.00 -1100am for 10 weeks or Watercolour course, Friday 9.00-10.00am for 6 weeks.
Kadenze.com and Kadenze Virtual Studios are powered by Kannu, the learning management system which powers kadenze.com. Many of the links in the user guides will take you to our Kannu help articles for in-depth explanations and guidance.
Getting started
-
Shortly after you have returned your signed User Agreement, you will receive an email inviting you to “Confirm and Teach” your course. Click the link in your email to go to the kadenze.com platform where you will be prompted to enter a password to create an account.
To set up and update your user profile and portfolio, click on Create a Profile.
-
Once you have created an account and profile, you will be taken to the Course Creation Dashboard page. Here you will see a “Getting Started” checklist. This checklist guides you through the KVS set up process. You can return to any section on the checklist via the “Dashboard” tab on the left-side navigation menu.
When you log out, you can return to your KVS through “My Courses” at the top of the page, then click “View All” and “Edit” to enter your course.
Getting Started Checklist
-
Syllabus (accessed via Course Info > Syllabus): the syllabus acts as a class overview or summary for your students. In most cases it will be a simple statement of the skills and content they will cover across the class sessions. Click ‘Save Draft’ each time you make an edit.
-
Sessions: They are the central pillars of your course. What you will teach will be delivered in sessions or classes. These have many uses. They are virtual teaching spaces which can hold instructional content, document/record discussions, videos, images, audio files, presentations, documents, and direct students to other parts of your studio like Forums or Coursework. Click ‘Save Draft’ each time you make an edit.
-
Coursework: These are assignments, projects, quizzes, or tests for your students. While most studio teachers do not formally examine and grade their students, you do have this capability if you wish to use it. Click ‘Save Draft’ each time you make an edit.
-
Publish Course: When you have set your goals and syllabus, shaped your sessions and decided on resources, it will be time to publish your course. First you will need to add a course overview (accessed via Course Info > Syllabus > Overview).
When done click ‘Publish’ on the Syllabus page. Your course will go to Kadenze staff for checking. We will double-check all the settings, amend if necessary or contact you if we see a problem. Once reviewed, when you log into kadenze.com, you’ll find your course under your ‘My Courses’ tab. Please allow 1-2 days for our review process.
Learn more about Syllabus, Sessions and Coursework in General FAQ.
