Q1 What is a KVS?
A KVS is your own virtual studio for independent arts teaching online. It is a virtual instructional space packed with the advanced technical capabilities for teaching which will allow you to reimagine and create online and live interactions with your students.
ADVANTAGES OF KVS
Q2 What advantages will my KVS have over other freely available technologies such as zoom?
KVS is fully resourced with a range of teaching tools, all in one space and place, and under your brand. Zoom, for example, is a video-conferencing tool used for synchronous communications. In your KVS you can embed zoom and use it alongside other tools to make your studio a professional, fit for purpose environment for studio teaching.
Q3 How will online students find my KVS?
Your KVS is a completely private site and only accessed by students and instructors upon your invitation.
Q4 Will Kadenze promote the courses I teach through my KVS?
No. All promotions and recruitment of learners will be undertaken by you. It is your own private studio and you choose who your participants are and how many you wish to invite. There is no cap on the number of students you can have in your KVS.
TECHNICAL CONSIDERATIONS
Q5 Can I set up small break out groups within my studio?
You can embed a zoom link in the announcements, and break-out groups
can be formed in the forums.
Q6 Can pre-recorded content be set to release automatically, or do I have to manually post it?
You can set it to be released automatically. In the session area, there
is a tab called “visible on”. Here, you can set when you want the content to be made public.
Q7 Are there friendly staff to help out with tech difficulties?
Each KVS host will receive technical guides to help you set up and manage your KVS. In addition we do provide technical support to help with particular difficulties.
FINANCIAL CONSIDERATIONS
Q8 How much does a KVS cost?
After registering with kadenze.com and establishing your KVS, you will have unlimited use of your studio for 45 days for experimentation and testing. After that no cost trial period, a fee of $US25 per month applies. A discounted annual fee will also be available.
Q9 How will I receive payments from my students? Are payments made directly to me?
Yes. All financial transactions will be strictly between you and your students and not involve Kadenze in any way. You can set up payments from your students via PayPal, credit card or bank transfer.
Q10 Is this an American company - will I end up having to pay USA tax?
While Kadenze Inc. is based in the US, there are no tax implications for you
beyond what would normally apply to what you earn in your home country,You should seek tax advice from your tax agent or accountant, to cover all bases.
OPERATIONAL CONSIDERATIONS
Q11 Does Kadenze ‘approve’ the content I teach in my KVS?
No. You have complete control over what and how you teach in your KVS.
Q 12 I want to teach weekly sessions, how long does it take to get a session
uploaded? I want students to have access to my content every day
You will be able to upload materials for each session yourself and they will be available immediately for your learners.
Q13 What time zone do I need to offer courses in?
How you manage time zone differences will depend on what works best for you and your students. It will also depend on how much synchronous contact you wish to have with your learners as a group and individually.
COURSE STRUCTURE
Q14 Can I offer both live and recorded sessions?
Yes. Recorded sessions can also be archived in your KVS and accessed both before and after a live session.
Q15 I am used to presenting a two-day course live and I have turned that into
an online course over four days. Can I manage that within my KVS?
You can frame your courses as you wish. However, if you need assistance to
structure your online content, please refer to our Technology Enabled Creative Learning (TECL) guide.
Q16 Can students post their work in a gallery to critique each other and
receive feedback from me?
Yes. As the teacher you will set up activities and assignments for students to submit. All student submissions appear in the gallery, and you and your students can leave comments.
